Stepping Off The Boat

This post is being written from a different city, state, and coffee shop than the rest of my posts. After a forty-two hour drive, my wife and I have finally landed at our new home in Bellingham, WA. Crazy, right? We just moved across the county for an amazing job opportunity, and quite frankly it’s what inspired me to write this post. My wife and I decided to step off the boat of comfort and ignite a faith that would bring us closer to God himself.

Yes, that is a Matthew 14:22-33 reference.

I’ve come to realize that throughout my life, God seems to work most evidently when I am out of my comfort zone, uncomfortable, and not complacent. Why? Because in my own personal discomfort I rely on God’s comfort and guidance to direct me towards where He wants me to be.

It’s easy to live life in “Safe-Mode,” but is that what God intended? I’d have to say NO. Safe-mode is a time-bomb that slowly destroys our creativity, and indefinitely deteriorates our faith in Jesus Christ.

I’m not saying you need to jump into a lions cage or anything. But in all seriousness, what’s to lose? (Other than your arm) Just kidding.

But seriously…

Jump off the boat! Make some bold moves! STEP OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE and put yourself in situations that force you to depend on the greatness and power of God.

Post Challenge: If you truly believe God is great, then give Him room to prove it! Stop trying to comfortably do things on your own, and realize that even Jesus himself had 12 disciples. They were all bold, courageous, and stepped out when everyone else was looking to retreat to safety.

Build an Ark. Face the giant. Drop your net. Step off the boat.

Joshua 1:9 – “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”

  1. Thank you so much! God wanted me to read this. I’m currently struggling on my classes, and thinking about dropping some of my AP classes into something lower. But now I want to trust in the Lord that whatever happens, it’ll leas me to the path that God wants! God bless!

  2. We are jumping out of the boat! Our family has been asked to go to Haiti and manage a small orphanage there. We said yes! So now we look at raising support for us and this ministry/orphanage. So far, we’ve only heard, “I can totally see your family doing that!” but I know the naysayers will come as word spreads. We know what God has asked and He has made the path clear and satan is going to try to stop it. Haiti has my heart. I can’t walk away from it, it’s in my bones…

    1. Best wishes to you. I support the Haitian Healt Foundation, a grassroots organization located in Norwich, Ct. They help folks livling in the Jeremie, Hait area….they’ve been doing it since the 1980’s. Hait is a VERY poor country. You will find God there. I admire you.

    2. That is so awesome! I will be praying for you and your family! God has something AWESOME in stored for you! Love and blessings your way.

  3. Thank you for this. I’ve been struggling with the discomfort and instead of putting things to God and leaning on Him, I’ve been trying to do things my own way but its time for a change hey. Thank you again
