People Pleasing

November 20, 2012

You know those times when you know the right thing to do, but you get so worried about what people will think that you don’t do it? Ya, we’ve all had those experiences.

Think about it…

Sometimes we purposely choose not to follow the right decisions in order to please the people around us. But at the end of the day, what does that do? Nothing…

Pleasing the people around you will get you nowhere. Why? Because the people around you can’t give you what you truly really need in the first place. Only God can do that.

1. How many people have failed to pursue their dreams because they are too caught up in what people might think?

2. How many people have stopped just before crossing the finish line because they didn’t want people to be upset that they finished before them?

3. How many people have yet to follow their God-given calling because the opinions of others have them bound in chains?

Do any of these describe you?

The opinions of others can never compare to the TRUTH of God. And the reasoning behind this post is simple: TO CHALLENGE YOU TO IGNORE THE OPINIONS OF OTHERS, AND PURSUE WHAT GOD HAS CALLED YOU TO DO.

Sure, some people might dislike your decisions. Some people might turn their backs on you. And frankly, some people might never understand the reasoning behind your motives.

Psalm 118:6The LORD is with me; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?

But at the end of the day, there is not one opinion that is great enough to outweigh the calling God has for your life. People will leave you. Money will leave you. Jobs will leave you. But guess what? God won’t.

Pursue your God-given calling. Follow your dreams. And allow God to guide you every step of the way. Pleasing people might get you some acceptance, but it won’t get you acceptance into the only place that really matters. #Heaven

Don’t be a people-pleaser. Be a purpose seeker.

  1. Oh boy, you got me on ALL three. I’m currently in a battle in my mind about my writing and finishing the novels that are in my head but not completed in words. Thank you.

  2. Can completely relate to last comment – same words to describe my inner struggle: questioning why God planted the seed to write in me, but I haven’t done anything about it for 43 years.

  3. Oh so true. Really needed to hear that!

  4. I love the points in this article. And what about the balance between pursuing purpose and loosing the value of the people around you. What about taking counsel from elders? We cant completely ignore the opinions of others, sometimes we need them to help us grow… Whats your take on that ?

  5. He guys, I’m looking for people from all over the world to make a blog together. The mission of the blog is to encourage young christians en help the ones who are searching for the truth! Do you want to help? Send me a message. :) Thanks

  6. I agree with some of this message. However, in my opinion, it’s not all about pleasing people all the time. Yes, I agree that you have to do the right thing in order to please God, but at the same time you already know what’s right or wrong just by human nature. I don’t think or believe it should be based on what people think or say about you because it’s not their right or privilege to judge you. Only God can judge people.

  7. Thank you guys so much! It’s incredible to see everyone’s responses. Tommy, I agree with you. That’s exactly what this post is stating ha. :)

  8. Thanks Jarrid;
Your words struck a chord with me as well. In fact, God has been dealing with me about living a life of fatih or a life of fear. I too, feel that God has called me to write, but have not followed through with what I have started. I also feel that God is calling back into becoming part of a praise and worship team. I would like to connect with Sarina and her blog idea, seeing that I already am writing a blog and would like to do more with it. how do I contact her? Thanks, and be blessed!

  13. WORD. Sadly, most of the time people forget their real purpose in life because of this.

**This is my first time reading your blog and i love it. :) (now will back read)

    Thanks, Jarrid!

  14. Ahhhh! This was an impacting article. Thank you for the challenge to push past fear of man and walk into that which God has for each of us. One of the comments articulated this CHOICE so well: walk in fear OR faith. My own curiosity, two words and a Google search brought me to your blog. Those words were Jesus Swagger. Bless you.
